Life is unpredictable.
Life is full of some really heavy hardships.
Sometimes everything in your life can suddenly feel like it’s shaking.
The things you thought you knew, things you thought would always be there can be ripped away, and your world can feel like it’s crumbling.
What was constant can suddenly end, and you feel like life has been turned upside down.
You can feel broken, abandoned, lonely, hurt, as if a piece of your life is missing.
Where do you turn to when life shatters? More importantly, who do you turn to when life shatters?
This weekend, as I read Habakkuk with a room full of women, I was reminded how in those times, when we cannot begin to understand what God is doing, He is still in control. He never loses control! He is there holding us with His righteous right hand. He is good, even when life doesn’t feel good. He has the power to put our lives back together, to give us the peace we need during our trials, and to comfort us in a way no one else can.
At TGC Canada Conference for Women 2025 we learnt that it is okay to lament. We can be personal and honest with God. He wants us to be that way with Him. We can cry out until we feel like we’re gasping for air. We can bring Him our fears about the future. He holds our future and knows exactly what is going to happen. I recently heard a pastor say, “Friends keep this in mind. There is no time when you stop troubling the Lord because it is never any trouble for him to hear your cry and to wipe the tears from your eyes.” How comforting. Our God is loving. Our God is sovereign. Our God is almighty, powerful and glorious.
In hard times, we need to remember who God is.
Life is uncertain and very devastating at times.
Life can leave us shocked and speechless. Yet I was reminded again to rejoice in the Lord in these hard times. To take joy in the God of my salvation and to remember that He will be my strength like no other. He will make my feet strong. I will wait and look toward the future, toward the day when He will conquer all the horrible things we fear. And while I wait for that day where there will be no more tears, no more hurt and no more death I will keep singing the words we sang often this weekend.
“Even in the valley, You are faithful
You’re working for our good
You’re working for our good and for Your glory
Your plans are still to prosper
You have not forgotten us
You’re with us in the fire and the flood
You’re faithful forever
Perfect in love
You are sovereign over us”
